“The toilet is the fundamental zone of interaction between humans and architecture. Today we can imagine buildings without almost any of the other elements of architecture, but not without the toilet.” AMO, 2014

TOILET: INTIMACY EXPOSED, EDITED BY JAVIER FERNANDES CONTRERAS AND ROBERTO ZANCAN, PUBLISHED BY HEAD GENÈVE WITH SPECTOR BOOKS, 2023

From an architectural point of view, the history of toilets in domestic spaces is not as long as we may think. One hundred years ago, most houses did not have indoor toilets. Today the average Italian consumes 250 liters of water a day. What is the solution for toilets? Architects should wonder if the bathrooms advertised in contemporary magazines or on social media are a residue of a past life.
