Dear Reader,
We are about to embark on a journey to Cerveteri, an ancient Etruscan town forty-five kilometres northwest of Rome. We have chosen our travelling companions from among those who have visited in years past—some who came once and were forever changed, others who have returned again and again, drawn back by the land’s enduring secrets. We will let their words guide us; written at different times, they are gathered here like a friendly conversation.
